How does Spamatak know what email messages are spam?
Training builds a statistical model of spam and non-spam emails. During training, Spamatak will treat all emails in the designated spam folder as spam, and all other emails as non-spam.

If the spam folder is empty, sample spam mails that are provided with Spamatak will be used. Spamatak uses the statistical filter to determine whether a new email received is spam or not.

How often do I have to check the spam folder for misclassified emails?
While many testers have reported zero cases of misclassification, you may choose to check your designated spam folder as often or as seldom as you like. Rest assured, with Spamatak you are never at risk of losing an email.

I misclassified an e-mail as spam. Where is it now?
You will find it in the designated spam folder.

How do I make Spamatak more / less aggressive with the threshold settings?
A fun feature unique to Spamatak is its Performance Graph which puts you in control of its filter sensitivity through the red Threshold line. Lowering the Threshold line makes Spamatak less aggressive and vice versa.

If you are interested, have a play with the Threshold line to see how it changes Spamatak’s behaviour!

I don’t understand the Performance graph. Enlighten me!
The Performance graph gives you a snapshot of how Spamatak has treated all your emails. It is a simple graphical interface that lets you reclassify and even open email. You can also alter Spamatak’s filtering sensitivity by adjusting the Threshold line which separates spam email and non-spam email.

Green squares (non-spam email), should fall above the Threshold line and stay near the Y-axis. Red spots (spam), on the other hand, should fall below the Threshold line and stay near the X-axis. An email that is misclassified will be represented by a red or green square on the wrong side of the Threshold line.

I accidentally blocked my friend’s email. How do I undo this?
Spamatak does not block emails. All emails received will be scanned automatically even though the email might have to conform rules you have specified in Outlook’s® Rule Wizard.

If, however, you have accidentally classified an email as spam, just open the spam folder, find the email and click’n’drag it to the correct folder.

You say that Spamatak learns on its own. How does it do this?

Spamatak uses an adaptable statistical filter based on an experiential algorithm to classify email. Whenever you change the classification (spam to non-spam or vice versa) of an email, Spamatak updates its statistical filter. Spamatak continuously observes and learns how you treat email.

How often will spam get deleted in the Spam folder?
Spamatak NEVER deletes emails. You, however, can delete emails from the spam folder if you like but try to keep at least 500 spam email for any training sessions you may choose to run in the future.

Should I just have spam moved into my ‘Deleted Items’ folder?
No. Since the <Deleted Items> folder may contain both spam and non-spam email Spamatak does not refer to it during training.

What if I change my mind about a message?
Simply drag’n’drop or cut’n’paste to the desired folder. Alternatively, you can highlight the email and use Spamatak’s Spam and Not Spam toolbar or menu buttons.

Why are there still spam messages in my Inbox?
This problem is most likely to happen when you first install Spamatak and have a lot of emails in your Inbox making it difficult to sort out the spam. Classification will improve if you can find these emails and move them to the Spam folder.

Firstly, run training. If the training process identifies any spam in the Inbox they will show up in the review screen where you can reclassify them as spam.

You can also check emails using the Performance Graph. Every email is shown on the graph according to its spam and non-spam score. You can select, review and reclassify emails from this graph. Review the emails that are distant from either axis.

Can I temporarily disable Spamatak for experimental reasons?
No, but you can uninstall it and later reinstall it.

How do I uninstall / reinstall Spamatak?
Uninstall: Navigate to Start > Programs > Spamatak > Uninstall Spamatak
Install: Run Spamatak’s setup program.

How often will I have to train Spamatak?
If Spamatak is already performing well you will never need to run a second training session! If, however, you want to improve its performance a single training session every 3 months should be enough.

When will I have to update Spamatak?
You may visit www.spamatak.com occasionally to check on the availability of updates. If your version of Spamatak is working well though there is no real need to update it.

How do I add my friends to Spamatak’s white-list?
Navigate to Tools > Spamatak > Options and ensure ‘All emails received from contacts in the Address Book are Non-Spam’ is selected.

Then navigate to Tools > Address Book and add your friend emails address into it.

Will Spamatak connect to the Internet without me knowing?
No. Spamatak will never have a need to connect to the Internet.
